Climate change, conflict and displacement: Understanding the nexus - Side event of the 69th session of the Executive Committee

When climate change and disaster interact with conflict and violence, affected people who are displaced across international borders may be refugees or otherwise in need of international protection. This side event aims to examine the nexus between climate change and disaster; conflict and violence; and cross-border displacement. The findings of a UNHCR 2018 study on State practice in responding to people fleeing conflict and violence in specific situations in the Horn of Africa and the Americas will be presented, and speakers will be invited to discuss their insights and perspectives on the potential implications for State responses and international protection.
