Conclusions: Nansen Initiative Pacific Regional Consultation
The Nansen Initiative plans to hold five (sub-) regional consultations in the Pacific, Central America, East Africa, Southeast Asia, and South Asia over the course of 2013-2014. These consultations will bring together representatives from states, international organizations, NGOs, civil society, think tanks and others key actors working on issues related to displacement and natural disasters, including climate change. The outcomes from these (sub-) regional consultations will be compiled in preparation for a global consultative meeting planned for early 2015, when state representatives and experts from around the world will discuss a potential protection agenda for cross-border displacement in the context of natural disasters.
The Pacific consultations took place on 21-24 May 2013 in Rarotonga, Cook Islands. The event was hosted by the government of the Cook Islands, and was organized by the Nansen Initiative Secretariat and the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP).
