This panel will explore Somalia's journey in building climate resilience amidst challenges of conflict, economic instability, and environmental degradation. It will highlight innovative strategies for adaptation, disaster risk management, and community-led solutions, with a special focus on the critical role of the Somali diaspora in driving climate action. Panelists will discuss how diaspora contributions—through funding, knowledge sharing, and advocacy—are shaping resilience efforts and inspiring collaborative solutions in other fragile states.
As part of the event, the panel will feature the screening and discussion of “Old Times”, the award-winning documentary recognized with the Special Recognition for Inclusive Action on Climate Change and its Impact on Migration at the PLURAL+ Youth Video Festival, a joint initiative of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC).
The film offers a compelling narrative on climate-induced migration, exploring intergenerational perspectives and the power of inclusive storytelling in shaping climate action. Set in the Philippines, “Old Times” underscores how climate change is reshaping communities and mobility patterns, emphasizing the importance of amplifying diverse voices in global climate discourse.
