French Spring Festival 2021 - FOCUS Conference: Human mobility facing climate change
-
Date
21 Jun 2021, 18:00pm
From 06:00 pm IST/ 02:30 pm CEST
Launched by the Embassy of France in Sri Lanka and the Maldives in 2015, the series of conferences called “FOCUS” has been seeking to enrich the reflection of France and Sri Lanka on sustainable development.
For its fourth edition of 2021, the Embassy of France will engage on June 21st with climate-related human mobility, in collaboration with SLYCAN Trust.
Human mobility, climate change and the environment are interrelated across the world, and Sri Lanka is no exception. Climate change has become an underlying driver of human mobility in the country, due to hydrometeorological hazards and long-term processes, such as soil depletion, salinization, deforestation, and ecosystem degradation. These can impact the agriculture sector as well as other livelihoods and can exacerbate existing socioeconomic vulnerabilities.
Panelists :
- Dr. Ranjith Punyawardena, Chairman, National Steering Committee on Climate Change Adaptation, Ministry of Environment, Government of Sri Lanka
- Ms. Rangitha Balasuriya, Senior Project Coordinator, IOM Sri Lanka and Maldives
- Mr. Dennis Mombauer, Director of Research & Knowledge Management, SLYCAN Trust
The discussion will be moderated by Ms Vositha Wijenayake, Executive Director of the SLYCAN Trust.
