Migration is an important distributor of Ghana’s population. It has a significant role in the socio-cultural and economic development of the population. Migration in Ghana is predominantly internal and much of it, as in other developing countries, is undocumented. Individuals migrate to escape constraints their communities face in response to available prospects. The first section of this working paper will review the dominant migration patterns in Ghana at a national level, and the second section will review existing literature on migration in the Volta Delta.
