Nansen Initiative Protection Agenda - Looking Back to Prepare for the Future

2015 saw the endorsement of the Nansen Initiative Protection Agenda. The Protection Agenda offers States a toolbox to better prevent and prepare for displacement before a disaster strikes. When displacement cannot be avoided, it helps States improve their responses to situations when people are forced to find refuge, within their own country or across a border.

Today, it is time to assess the progress made. How can we work together, across stakeholders and beyond silos, to better protect disaster displaced persons?

IOM provided active support to the Nansen Initiative from 2012 to 2015, as a Standing Invitee of the Nansen Initiative Steering Group and a member of its Consultative Committee, including by contributing to the preparation of the Nansen Initiative's Regional consultations and background papers.

Since the establishment of the Platform on Disaster Displacement in July 2016 as a follow up to the Nansen Initiative, IOM supports directly the implementation of the Platform's Strategic Framework and Workplan in close collaboration with the Platform's Secretariat.
