Knowledge Platform on People on the Move in a Changing Climate
In order to shine a light on the plight of children on the move and to better understand how children and young people are affected by climate-related migration and displacement, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and UNICEF hosted a two-day virtual symposium in November 2020.
Panellists offered perspective and analysis on the impact of climate change, including in its interplay with conflict, on present and future population displacement and migration trends.
The Atlas of Environmental Migration is the first illustrated publication mapping this complex phenomenon. It clarifies terminology and concepts, draws a typology of migration related to environment and climate change, describes the multiple factors at play, explains the challenges, and highlights the opportunities related to this phenomenon.
Pablo Escribano, Especialista Temático Regional en Migración, Medio Ambiente y Cambio Climático de la OIM and Jonas Bergmann, Investigador del Instituto Potsdam para la Investigación sobre el Impacto del Cambio Climático (PIK), conversan sobre la relación entre amenazas ambientales y movilidad humana.
