The Global Compact for Migration (GCM) offers a unique opportunity to build on global frameworks and instruments to address the challenges of human mobility in the context of disasters and the adverse effects of climate change and to synthesize their messages in a coherent and cross-cutting way. Member States were encouraged to promote these messages during the GCM process.
The Intergovernmental Conference to Adopt the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, will be held in Marrakesh, Morocco on 10 and 11 December 2018.
The Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration is the first, intergovernmentally negotiated agreement, prepared under the auspices of the United Nations, to cover all dimensions of international migration in a holistic and comprehensive manner.
This document is part of a series of Policy Briefs developed to support SDG 7 Review at the UN High-Level Political Forum to be held in July 2018. The objective is to inform intergovernmental discussions by providing substantive inputs on SDG7 and its interlinkages with other SDGs prepared through inclusive multi-stakeholder consultation processes.
