This side event will showcase innovative solutions and best practices for building heat resilience at the global, national, and local levels with a dedicated focus on cities/urban areas and extreme heat’s impact on human mobility/immobility and displacement. It will highlight successful heat action plans at the city level, the Global Heat Resilience Service (GHRS), and efforts to mainstream heat planning into urban development, risk management and humanitarian response. We will also discuss the importance of integrating heat resilience into climate adaptation and disaster risk reduction strategies and the role of international cooperation especially the data collection, analytics and advisory in addressing this critical issue especially in critical socio-economic development sectors like water, energy etc. Recognizing the people-centric dimensions of heat and heatwaves, the Side Event will seek to engage non-governmental actors and stakeholders like the private sector while fostering application of digital technologies and nature-based solutions to mitigate the impacts.
