2012
Norway and Switzerland launched the Nansen Initiative to build consensus on how to better address the protection needs of people displaced across borders in the context of disasters. The outcome of their collaboration is the Protection Agenda, endorsed by 109 States in 2015, marking the end of the Nansen Initiative.
2016
Established this year by Germany (Chair) and Bangladesh (Vice-Chair), the Platform on Disaster Displacement aims to continue the work of the Nansen Initiative. At this side event, the Chairs will present the key milestones ahead and discuss, together with representatives from UNHCR and IOM, the opportunities and challenges of implementing the Protection Agenda.
