The side event will explore the critical nexus between non-economic losses and damages and human mobility, emphasizing the relevance of human rights. As displacement, migration, and planned relocation become increasingly prevalent, understanding the psychosocial, cultural, and environmental impacts of climate change is essential for effective support and action, especially where such impacts are deemed difficult to measure in monetary terms. The event will highlight the unique challenges faced by affected populations, particularly in developing countries, and the need for collaborative efforts among various stakeholders to enhance community resilience. Participants will also focus on gaps in current approaches to human mobility challenges in the context of NELD at national and local level, and outline their expectations of the new technical guidelines being developed in this regard by the NELs EG and TFD under the WIM. By focusing on the human rights implications of displacement and mobility, this session aims to foster a deeper understanding of how protecting individual dignity and agency can mitigate the adverse effects of loss and damage on vulnerable communities.
