This event raises awareness on human trafficking risk factors in the context of climate change, environmental degradation, disasters and resulting displacement, including the shift to renewable energy. It will showcase examples, focusing on actions to reduce vulnerabilities and build resilience.
The dialogue aims to foster joint efforts to counter human trafficking and severe exploitation in the context of environmental migration, contributing to Sustainable Development Goals 5.2, 8.7, 8.8, 10.7, and 16.2, as well as Objectives 2, 5, 6, 7 and 10 of the Global Compact for Migration.
This side event is open to State and international/regional organization delegations, as well as civil society, businesses, and trade union representatives attending COP29 or participating online. It is jointly organized by IOM, Anti-Slavery International, the Inter-Agency Coordination Group Against Trafficking in Persons (ICAT), and the Migration Action Group under Alliance 8.7.
