On the verge of the UN climate change conference in Paris at the end of November 2015, attention is focusing on the proposed agreement. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC, 2014) has recognized mobility – migration, displacement and planned relocation –as a possible adaptation strategy. States have requested more information on the links between different forms of human mobility and the impacts of climate change in decisions by the Conferences of the Parties (COP) in 2010 and 2012. This seminar will present evidence to date about migration as an adaptation strategy in the 6 pilot countries of the “Migration, Environment and Climate Change: Evidence for Policy” (MECLEP) project as well as the recently published book on the regional dimension of Environmental Change, Adaptation and Migration edited by Hillmann et al.

This seminar takes place in the framework of the MECLEP project funded by the European Union, with the financial assistance of IOM’s Development Fund. The project is the first of its kind to conduct comparative research on how different forms of mobility can enhance or pose obstacles to adaptation to environmental and climate change.
