The peer-to-peer training that will take place 17-19 September 2024 in Lomé, Togo, will be convened by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and UNFCCC- Regional Coordination Centre for West and Central Africa (RCC WAC Africa), in partnership with the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS) and UNEP for West and Central Africa.
It will engage climate negotiators and diplomats of West and Central Africa to develop a common understanding of the nexus human mobility and climate change in the region and provide them with relevant data and information on the impacts of climate change on human mobility. Furthermore, these exchanges will be fed by the active participation of young climate leaders.
The workshop will focus on enhancing the technical capacities of governments of the region to integrate human mobility in their official COP 29 positions and commitments, the UNFCCC process, but also in their National Adaptation Plans. Peer-to-peer learning discussions will provide participants with the opportunity to understand what their counterparts are doing and/or considering in different country contexts.
