Milan EXPO 4-11 June 2015
The celebrations of the World Environment Day 2015 will take place in Italy as part of EXPO Milan 2015.
This year’s theme – “Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care” – expresses the need to create opportunities for sustainable economic development while attempting to stabilize the rate of resource-use and reduce the impact on the environment.
One of the greatest challenges humanity is facing today is maintaining healthy growth rates to lift the world’s one billion out of absolute poverty and carefully manage the natural resources required to sustain the expanding human population – that will reach nine billion by 2050 – while also keeping environmental impacts within acceptable limits and sustaining life’s natural support system.
To meet this challenge we need to transition to more efficient and sustainable consumption and production patterns.
The agenda of the WED 2015, coordinated by the Italian Ministry of the Environment, Land and Sea, together with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), will include a rich programme of events and activities related to food and environmental sustainability organized by different actors and located in several Pavilions.
Furthermore, WED 2015 will feature a special focus on mountain areas since it will occur during “Mountain Week”, which will be celebrated both inside and outside EXPO Milan 2015 from June 4 to June 11 as a result of the interest taken by the Permanent Secretariat and the Observers of the Alpine Convention, as well as by other stakeholders at various administrative levels, the private sector and the civil society.
