The International Organization for Migration (IOM) Regional Office for East and Horn of Africa, The Republic of Uganda, Ministry of Water and Environment, and the UNFCCC and East African Development Bank's (EADB) Regional Collaboration Center in Kampala, Uganda are bringing together high-level government representatives to develop an integrated approach to climate change induced mobility across the East and Horn of Africa. The Regional Inter-Ministerial Conference will contribute to raising the importance of human mobility in the context of climate change ahead of COP27. Conference participants will explore key areas of cooperation in mitigating the adverse effects and taking advantage of the opportunities of climate change-related mobility. Further, Conference participants will consider how the Migration, Environment, and Climate Change nexus can be elevated through collaborative efforts at global platforms.
The Conference will conclude with a joint Declaration by States on enhancing regional cooperation in relation to climate change induced human mobility. The Declaration will articulate regional priorities ahead of negotiations at COP27.
