IOM Engagement at the Africa Climate Week

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is attending the Africa Climate Week, which is being held in Libreville, Gabon on 29 August - 2 September.

The Africa Climate Week aims to engage and empower stakeholders to drive climate action across countries, communities and economies. In particular, the Africa Climate Week is centered around three themes: resilience against climate risks, the transition to a low-emission economy, and partnerships to solve pressing challenges. 

As part of the Africa Climate Week, IOM is organizing a side-event on Human Mobility and Green Economy Development in a Changing Climate in West and East Africa. The Side-Event will be held on 31 August at 14.15 WAT. Register here. In addition, IOM is participating in the following events:

Side-Event: Moving back from the edge: climate and disaster risk reduction in highly vulnerable and fragile contexts

Growing risks, largely fueled by climate change, are pushing many communities in fragile and highly vulnerable countries to the edge of tipping into recurring or protracted states of crisis, where they would require humanitarian assistance. This session will seek feedback on emerging findings from a flagship case-study report that examines evidence from the field.

First Global Stocktake of the Paris Agreement: Showcasing climate action and support in the Africa region

The event will share information on the modalities and status of work on GST1 in assessing collective progress towards the purpose and long-term goals of the Paris Agreement, with a view to informing the updating and enhancing of NDCs. In addition, the Stocktake will provide an opportunity to discuss the challenges, barriers, solutions and opportunities for climate action and support within the context of Africa,
